About The Signal

Clear reporting. No noise.

The Signal is a general news publication built around a short list of rules we do not break.

What we do differently

No attention tricks. No autoplay video, no pop-ups, no countdown banners, no infinite scroll. A story ends where the reporting ends.

No surveillance advertising. We carry no third-party ad trackers, so the page you load is the page we wrote.

Plain language. Headlines say what happened. If a story cannot be summarised in one honest sentence, it is not ready.

Visible corrections. When we get something wrong we say so on the story, with the date, rather than quietly editing the text.

How it is made

The whole site is a small server-rendered application with a Postgres database behind it. Pages are a few kilobytes and work without JavaScript. Editors write and publish from the newsroom at /admin.

Every headline is also available as an RSS feed, because the best reader is the one you already use.
